The spectacular city of Sydney was host to the XXVII Millennium Games which took place between 15th September and 1st October 2000. The Olympic torch was carried by 10,000 Australians, each carrying it for up to one kilometer. It was carried on foot, train, bicycle, stock horse, tram, reef cruiser, lear jet, rowing shell, canoe and Sydney ferry. Celebrating 100 years of women’s participation in the Games, former Australian women Olympic champions brought the Olympic torch through the stadium, finally handing it over to Cathy Freeman, who lit the flame in the cauldron within a circle of fire.
